About Storm Wines

Storm Wines carries a South African accent into Santa Barbara County. Winemaker Ernst Storm trained at Elsenburg Agricultural School outside Stellenbosch and worked both Stellenbosch and Walker Bay before California called; after stints in the Sierra Foothills and at Firestone and Curtis wineries, he founded his own label in 2006 with just six barrels, drawn to a region whose Mediterranean climate and diverse soils reminded him of home.

The focus is classic and cool-climate: benchmark Sauvignon Blanc, built on freshness, texture and grapefruit-cored energy, and site-driven Pinot Noir, all sourced through long relationships with sustainable, organic and biodynamic vineyards. Ernst's brother Hannes makes acclaimed wines in South Africa under the same family name, a transcontinental sibling act.

The family runs the show, with Ernst's wife Brooke overseeing the wine club and often working the Los Olivos tasting room on San Marcos Avenue alongside her sister. Visitors choose a standard flight, a dedicated Pinot flight or a private library experience, and reservations are recommended.
