About Terra Savia Winery & Olive Mill

Terra Savia is a family winery and working olive mill in Hopland's Sanel Valley, born when the family imported a couple thousand olive tree cuttings from Tuscany in the late 1990s and formally established in 2004. Winemaker Jim Milone is a fourth-generation Hopland winegrower whose great-grandfather founded the area's first winery before Prohibition, and he has spent more than 40 years making wine from these vineyards.

Everything here is CCOF certified organic and estate grown, from the red, white and sparkling wines to the cold-pressed, unfiltered extra virgin olive oils, and the fully certified organic mill also presses for wine brands across Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino. Unusually, the tasting room is the olive mill itself, so visitors taste wine and oil amid the equipment that makes them, surrounded by salvaged old-growth redwood furniture and a warehouse art gallery of local work.

The vibe is defiantly low key: picnic areas gather around an old train, paths wind through gardens and a greenhouse, and the resident rescued animals, King pigeons, sheep, goats and donkeys, happily accept carrots. Family and pet friendly with generous daily hours, it is Hopland's best argument for skipping the crowds and slowing down; there is even overnight RV parking and a vineyard guest house.

A fourth-generation winemaker's organic estate where the olive mill is the tasting room and rescued donkeys greet the guests.
