Tetrahedron Wines

Tetrahedron Wines is a boutique winery in the small Columbia River town of Lyle, Washington, in the Columbia Gorge within the broader Columbia Valley. It was founded by winemaker Kelly Johnson, who grew up in Lyle, earned a biology degree at Washington State University, then spent about thirteen years in the California wine industry, including running the lab at Trinchero Family Estates in St. Helena, before returning home to make her own wines.

Johnson released her first Tetrahedron wines in 2015 and opened a tasting room on Highway 14 in downtown Lyle the same year. The style leans natural - unfined, unfiltered and made with spontaneous fermentation and no animal products - across a lineup that has included an unusual Chardonnay-based wine called Nucleation, a rare Charbono, and Syrah and Merlot from long-established Columbia Gorge vineyards such as Sauter and Graves.

The tasting room is small and personal, often hosted by Kelly herself, and pours a wide flight of the winery's small-lot bottlings. It is generally open Wednesday through Sunday, though hours can shift seasonally, so it is best to confirm directly with the winery before visiting.
