About The Ojai Vineyard

The Ojai Vineyard is the conscience of south-coast California wine. Adam Tolmach founded it in 1983 on family land his grandfather bought in 1933, and set about proving that cool coastal districts could yield Syrah and Pinot Noir of Burgundian and Rhone-inflected finesse, decades before the style was fashionable. Today the winery makes around twenty-one different wines from top cool-climate sites across northern Santa Barbara County and Ventura County.

The tasting room occupies a historic firehouse in downtown Ojai at 109 S. Montgomery Street, steps from the Arcade, where flights and by-the-glass pours draw from an extraordinary library of more than 300 wines. Children and well-behaved dogs are welcome, snacks are sold at the bar, and the staff's wine talk runs as deep as visitors want to go.

Open daily, Sunday through Thursday 12 to 6 and Friday-Saturday 12 to 7, with free reservations recommended on busy Ojai weekends, it is the essential first pour of any Ojai wine day and one of the great tasting rooms of the Central Coast.

Adam Tolmach's 1983 bet on cool-climate finesse built one of California's great small wineries, poured daily in an old Ojai firehouse.
