About Thomas Fogarty Winery
Thomas Fogarty is the Stanford cardiovascular surgeon who invented the balloon embolectomy catheter, one of medicine's landmark devices, and spent the proceeds planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay high on Skyline ridge above Portola Valley in 1981. The estate became a Santa Cruz Mountains reference, its high-elevation single-vineyard Pinots among the appellation's most site-transparent.
The redwood-framed winery's view over the Bay is among wine country's great panoramas, and the winemaking has stayed estate-driven and precise. A surgeon's precision, applied to a mountainside.
