About Ellijay Wine Country
Ellijay sits in the heart of North Georgia's mountain wine country, where the Blue Ridge foothills create vineyard conditions dramatically different from the state's lowland agriculture. At 1,500 feet elevation in the Cartecay River Valley, nighttime temperatures drop enough to preserve grape acidity, a critical factor that makes serious winemaking possible this far south.
Seven wineries now operate in and around Ellijay, anchored by Cartecay Vineyards' estate wines and joined by Engelheim, Buckley, Grapes and Ladders, and others growing muscadine, Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, and creative hybrid blends. The town's famous apple orchards add another dimension; many visitors combine wine tasting with apple picking, especially during the October Georgia Apple Festival.
The broader North Georgia wine corridor connecting Ellijay to Dahlonega and Blue Ridge has become one of the Southeast's most exciting emerging wine regions. The mountain setting, waterfall hikes, Appalachian culture, and increasingly serious winemaking make Ellijay a weekend destination that rewards exploration.

Getting There
1.5 hours north of Atlanta via I-575 and GA-515. Dahlonega is 45 minutes east. Blue Ridge is 20 minutes north on GA-515.
When to Visit
April through November. The Georgia Apple Festival (October) is peak season. Summer is warm but pleasant at elevation. Fall foliage peaks in late October.
