About Tucker's Walk Vineyard

Tucker's Walk Vineyard is closed. The winery's own website now carries the owners' notice in plain words, that Sue and I have decided to close the winery and we have no plan to reopen, and the tasting room is shut; no closure date was given. Dave and Sue ran it on six acres at 48332 254th St outside Garretson, South Dakota, on the eastern edge of the state near the quartzite gorges of Palisades State Park. It mattered more than its size suggested: it was the first winery in South Dakota to grow and market Marquette grapes commercially.

The planting was built for the northern plains, all cold-hardy varieties: Marquette, Brianna, St. Croix, Frontenac Gris, St. Pepin and LaCrescent, with fruit wines pressed from raspberries, rhubarb and wild plum alongside an award-winning cranberry. The wines ran from a dry Marquette red through a semi-sweet Brianna to a St. Croix with cherry notes. Visits were by appointment rather than on posted hours, with a picnic area on the grounds, a wheelchair-accessible setup, children and pets welcome, and weddings hosted on site.

There is no visit to plan at this address any more. Garretson itself is still worth the short drive from Sioux Falls for Palisades State Park, where Split Rock Creek runs between pink quartzite cliffs, and Devil's Gulch nearby. Other South Dakota wineries remain within reach of Sioux Falls if you want a tasting on the same trip. Confirm current details and hours with any winery directly before you set out.

This winery is listed here for reference. It is closed, so there is no tasting room to visit.

The first South Dakota winery to grow Marquette commercially, six acres by the Palisades, now closed for good.
