About Tunnel Hill Winery
Tunnel Hill Winery is closed. Denny Evans founded it in 2001 in the Lake Chelan valley of Washington, turning former farmland into vineyard, and ran it for about twenty years before deciding in the spring of 2022 to close the operation. The tasting room shut at that point and sales moved online for a time; the winery has since sold out of all its wines, and its own site now says that while the wines are gone, it hopes its legacy lives on in the land and in the memories made with its supporters. It no longer appears on the Lake Chelan Wine Valley's roster of wineries.
The wines were estate grown, Pinot Noir among them, and the philosophy behind them was typicity: the belief, as the winery put it, that wine should transport you to the place it is from and tell you the story of how it came to be. That meant leaning on what the Chelan valley actually gives, a cool-climate lake basin planted on ground that had been orchard and farmland before the vines. The winery summarised its own twenty years as a matter of attention to detail, a sense of daring and a tenacious spirit.
There is nothing to visit at Tunnel Hill now and no wine left to buy. Lake Chelan remains one of Washington's most concentrated tasting destinations, with more than thirty wineries around the lake, from Tsillan Cellars and Karma Vineyards to Hard Row to Hoe and Vin du Lac, most of them within a short drive of Chelan and Manson. Confirm current hours, tasting fees and reservation policies directly with any winery before you travel.
