About Van Ruiten Family Winery
Van Ruiten Family Winery begins with John Van Ruiten Sr., a Dutch immigrant who settled in Lodi after the Second World War and bought his first vineyard in the early 1950s. The family expanded the farming operation over the following decades and moved into estate wine production around the turn of the millennium, so the multi-generation story here is a farming record rather than a recently assembled heritage narrative.
The family farms hundreds of acres and makes a broad California portfolio. Zinfandel is the thread back to the oldest plantings, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Chardonnay and limited or club releases appearing alongside it. The detail worth holding onto is that the original family Zinfandel vineyard still sits inside a much larger modern operation.
The tasting room offers seated or bar-style flights and publishes afternoon hours, with last seating before closing. Official visitor information describes it as welcoming to families and leashed dogs, subject to current rules and available outdoor space.
Larger groups should call ahead rather than assume a walk-in can be seated.
