A. Rafanelli Winery is one of the great cult wineries of Dry Creek Valley, a family-operated estate that sells exclusively through a mailing list and by-appointment tasting room visits, with virtually no retail distribution. The waiting list for the mailing list is years long.
Founded in 1974 by Amerigo Rafanelli and now run by his granddaughter Stacy and her husband, the winery produces old-vine Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon from dry-farmed estate vineyards using methods that haven't changed significantly in 50 years. No irrigation, no synthetic inputs, and minimal intervention in the cellar.
The wines, particularly the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, are among the most collected and age-worthy in California. Vintage after vintage they demonstrate that patience and traditional farming produce wines with a depth and complexity that modern techniques can't replicate.
