About Acumen Wine
Acumen was founded by China-born, Paris-educated entrepreneur Eric Yuan, who set out to make Bordeaux-inspired wines from high-elevation Atlas Peak fruit. The estate is built around two vineyards above the Napa Valley fog line: Attelas Vineyard (41 acres, acquired in 2012 from Dr. Jan Krupp) and Edcora Vineyard (180 acres, acquired in 2013), both farmed CCOF organic.
Founding winemaker Denis Malbec set the house style before his death in a 2016 car accident; early Peak-label wines carried 'DM' on the label in tribute. Edcora Vineyard sits at 1,300-1,600 feet elevation on reddish volcanic soil, running 5-10 degrees cooler than the valley floor. Current winemaking involves Phillip Titus, with Doug Hill and Charles McKahn also part of the team.
