About Ackerman Family Vineyards
Lauren Ackerman's path to wine began with a horse search that turned up a Coombsville property instead; the family bought the vineyard in 1994. Home winemaking followed in 1995, then a first commercial release, a 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. Roughly 11 of the estate's 16 acres are planted, and in 2009 the vineyard earned CCOF certification, the first certified-organic site in the Coombsville appellation.
Production stays around 2,000 cases a year, estate Cabernet Sauvignon, a Sonoma-sourced Sauvignon Blanc, and proprietary blends such as Memoir, with Leo Tellez as winemaker. The public face is Ackerman Heritage House, an 1888 Queen Anne Victorian on Randolph Street in downtown Napa that Lauren spent five years restoring; it won a California Preservation Design Award in 2019 and hosts seated tastings by reservation.
Coombsville's first certified-organic vineyard sits on a property the Ackermans found while shopping for horses.
