About Aubaine
Aubaine is pronounced O-bane and means windfall in French, chosen for the fortunate acquisition of the Anahata vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills, which Andy Lytle took on in 2013. The label itself was founded in 2019. A second estate site, Windfall Vineyard, followed in 2018: 117 acres planted directly in the path of the winds that come through the Van Duzer corridor. Both sites are LIVE certified and both carry vineyard apiaries.
Everything is estate grown and bottled by single vineyard, restricted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Isabelle Meunier makes the wine, a name Oregon drinkers will know from Lavinea.
You do not visit Aubaine on its own. The wines are poured at the Lytle-Barnett and Aubaine Wine Lounge on SW 7th Street in the middle of Dundee: one room, shared with Lytle-Barnett, the traditional method sparkling house Andy Lytle founded in 2013 with Antony Beck. Both labels sit under the same parent company, AtTheJoy. The lounge opened in May 2024 next door to the Dundee Bistro and across from Red Hills Market, in a space that was The Dapper Frog before the pandemic.
The tasting format is unusually open-handed. Rather than fixed flights, guests choose freely across both portfolios, so you can drink nothing but Chardonnay, work through the vintage sparkling wines, or move between the two. A single tasting fee covers it and is waived with a wine purchase. Food comes from Red Hills Market and Merenda, brought to the table.
