About AXR Napa Valley

AXR Napa Valley occupies one of the most architecturally striking buildings on the entire Highway 29 corridor, a dramatic contemporary structure of glass, steel, and warm wood that signals something different before you've even stepped through the door. Located at 1701 St. Helena Highway South in St. Helena, the winery was founded in 2010 with a singular focus: producing small-lot, estate-driven Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay that express the best of what Napa Valley's benchland soils can offer.

The name AXR is a nod to the AXR#1 rootstock that once defined Napa's vineyards, a piece of viticultural history embedded in the winery's identity from day one. That connection to the land runs through everything the team does, from vineyard sourcing across some of Napa's most coveted AVAs to the meticulous barrel program that shapes each vintage. The winery works with fruit from Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, and Howell Mountain, blending across these sub-appellations to build wines with both power and precision.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship, and AXR's approach leans toward a modern Napa style, rich and structured, with the kind of fruit depth that rewards both immediate drinking and extended cellaring. The Chardonnay program draws from cooler Carneros sources, producing a white wine that balances oak influence with genuine freshness. Limited-production reserve bottlings are available exclusively through the tasting room and wine club.

"AXR represents the new generation of Napa estate wineries, architecturally bold, wine-focused, and unapologetically Napa in its commitment to Cabernet."

Tastings are by appointment and take place in the stunning glass-walled space overlooking the vineyards, an intimate, unhurried experience that reflects the winery's philosophy of genuine hospitality over volume. The $50 tasting fee is among the most reasonable for a winery of this caliber on Highway 29. Groups are kept small to ensure personalized attention from the wine team, and the experience typically includes current releases alongside library and reserve pours.

For visitors exploring the St. Helena stretch of Highway 29, AXR offers a compelling alternative to the valley's larger estate destinations, the scale is boutique, the wines are serious, and the building alone is worth the visit. Wine club membership provides early access to new releases, allocation of limited bottlings, and invitations to exclusive winery events throughout the year.

The striking contemporaryThe striking contemporary glass and dark wood tasting room, one of the most photographed new winery architecture statements on the most visited wine road in the Napa Valley, provides a tasting environment that contrasts dramatically with the historic stone and Victorian wood buildings that dominate the Highway 29 aesthetic, declaring AXR's intention to bring contemporary design conviction to the Napa Valley's most historically saturated wine corridor.
