About Balo Vineyards
Balo Vineyards was an estate winery on Highway 128 in the Anderson Valley of Mendocino County, California, near Philo. Tim and Michele Mullins established it in 2003. The property ran to 14 acres, including 6.5 acres of organically farmed Pinot Noir, with a winery sized for about 7,000 cases.
Estate Pinot Noir off that cool valley floor was the point of the place, and the tasting room sat on the highway that links the valley's Pinot houses. That chapter is over. Jackson Family Wines bought the property, taking the physical winery and tasting room but explicitly not the Balo brand or its inventory, and said it would upgrade the facilities and use the site for Anderson Valley wines under labels including Copain, Maggy Hawk, Hartford Court, Kendall-Jackson, La Crema and Siduri, as well as a hospitality and direct-to-consumer center.
There is no Balo tasting room to book. Listings for Balo at Philo now show it as closed, and any hours, tasting fee or reservation requirement carried on older pages no longer apply. If you are headed to Anderson Valley, plan around the wineries still pouring along Highway 128. Confirm current details for whatever is operating at the site before you go.
