About Burrell School Vineyards
Burrell School Vineyards is named for the historic one-room Burrell School — the original 19th-century schoolhouse that served the Summit Road farming community in the Santa Cruz Mountains, now preserved on the estate property. The schoolhouse naming declares the estate's connection to the working agricultural community history of the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the one-room school served the children of farming families before rural consolidation.
Dave and Anne Moulton's estate was established in 1973, making Burrell School one of the Santa Cruz Mountains' historically founding modern wineries. The Summit Road estate at 2,200 feet elevation produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir from high-elevation Santa Cruz Mountains estate vineyard blocks where the Pacific fog and cool temperatures create Bordeaux and Burgundian variety growing conditions of unusual structural complexity.
