About Byron Vineyard and Winery
Byron has been chasing site-specific Pinot Noir since 1984, from vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley and the Sta. Rita Hills, two of the coolest appellations in California.
Winemaker Jonathan Nagy, a Santa Barbara County native, works row by row rather than block by block, choosing individual rows for their potential to express both variety and site, and favouring the clones that best show Byron's balanced, textural style.
The important practical point is that the estate on Tepusquet Road has no walk-in tasting room. Visitors regularly arrive expecting one and find the vineyard instead. Tastings here are arranged by appointment.
Byron does run a separate tasting room in Los Olivos, on Alamo Pintado Avenue, for anyone wanting to taste without booking ahead.
