About Canihan Winery
Canihan Winery is a certified organic, dry farmed 20 acre estate on Napa Road at the meeting point of three appellations: Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast and Los Carneros. The story runs back to August Siegrist, who left a village outside Zurich in 1920 after a childhood working Swiss hillside Pinot Noir; his family bought this Sonoma farm in 1973, and grandson Bill Canihan Jr. launched the winery in 2006 with the family's first commercial vintage, 2004.
Production stays tiny at around 900 cases a year, with yields held under two tons per acre and minimal intervention in the cellar. The estate lineup spans Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Viognier, rose and sparkling wine, and visits are by appointment seven days a week: intimate, customized flights that often reach into library and small production bottlings. Picnics, cheese plates, dogs and larger groups are all welcome with a reservation.
