About Casa Dumetz Wines

Casa Dumetz is winemaker Sonja Magdevski's Rhone-devoted label, named in homage to Francisco Dumetz, the Spanish missionary credited as the first to plant grapes in Southern California. A journalist and Fulbright scholar whose Macedonian family roots first connected her to vineyards, Magdevski opened her first Los Alamos tasting room in 2011 and moved into the current Bell Street home two years later.

Grenache is her great love, poured alongside Syrah, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and friends, mostly as single-vineyard bottlings from small lots of top Santa Barbara County fruit, sold almost entirely through the tasting room and club. The room actually houses three of her labels, Casa Dumetz, Clementine Carter and The Feminist Party, and sits right next door to her own Babi's Beer Emporium.

The vibe is pure Los Alamos: a quaint, convivial space on the town's antique-lined main street, open Thursday through Sunday afternoons into the evening, with an outdoor seating area, a Friday night speaker series, and reservations recommended as the secret has long been out.
