About Casa Piena

Casa Piena, Italian for 'full house,' was founded by Carmen Policy, former president and CEO of the San Francisco 49ers during their championship run, and his wife Gail. The couple's Policy Vineyard in Yountville was planted in 2003, and the first Casa Piena vintage, from 2006, was released in 2009. The Policy estate itself was sold to new owners in 2019, but Casa Piena continues to source fruit from the same blocks under the original arrangement.

The winery makes a single annual Cabernet Sauvignon bottling under the guidance of winemaker Thomas Brown, with Jim Barbour managing the vineyard. Output has grown from a 250-case debut to a current range of roughly 400 to 1,200 cases a year. A second label, Our Gang, was produced for a time but is no longer made. The wine is sold through limited retail placements, including V Wine Cellar and Bottega Restaurant, both in Yountville.

The estate makes exactly one wine a year, a single Cabernet Sauvignon bottling that has grown from a 250-case debut vintage to roughly 1,200 cases at most.

Single wine, single sourceCasa Piena makes just one wine each vintage, a Cabernet Sauvignon from its own Policy Vineyard in Yountville.
Ownership changed, sourcing didn'tThe Policy Vineyard property was sold to new owners in 2019, but Casa Piena kept sourcing fruit from the same estate blocks.
Off-site hospitalityTastings are hosted not at a Casa Piena property but at Mending Wall on the Silverado Trail or over a paired lunch at Bottega Restaurant in Yountville.
"A boutique, single-wine Yountville Cabernet project with football-world roots and off-site, appointment-only hospitality."
