About Castello di Amorosa

Castello di Amorosa is an authentically built 13th-century-style Tuscan castle winery near Calistoga, the vision of fourth-generation vintner Dario Sattui, who also owns V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena. Sattui bought the 171-acre property in 1993 and spent roughly 15 years and an estimated $40 million building it, importing over a million antique European bricks and roof tiles and hand-chiseling 8,000 tons of stone.

The castle opened to the public in April 2007 with 107 rooms across eight levels, including a moat, drawbridge, chapel, and a torture chamber with a Renaissance-era iron maiden. The 2020 Glass Fire damaged the estate's farmhouse and destroyed that year's Fantasia wine, but the castle itself survived unharmed.

Dario Sattui's authentic 13th-century-style Tuscan castle near Calistoga, 15 years and roughly $40 million in the making.

A real medieval castle, built from scratch,Dario Sattui imported over a million antique European bricks and hand-chiseled 8,000 tons of stone to make the castle architecturally authentic to the 13th century.
A family legacy honored in stone,Sattui built the castle to honor his great-grandfather Vittorio Sattui, an Italian immigrant who founded a San Francisco winery in 1885.
Survived the Glass Fire, the 2020 wildfire damaged the estate's farmhouse and destroyed an entire vintage of wine, but the castle itself came through unscathed.
