About Cathiard Vineyard
This Rutherford estate traces to 1885, when Scottish brothers James and William Rennie built a stone winery and planted 60 acres in the Mayacamas foothills. Louis M. Martini bought the site in 1933, and the Komes-Garvey family (as Flora Springs) later farmed it until Florence and Daniel Cathiard, owners of Bordeaux's Château Smith Haut Lafitte, purchased the property in January 2020.
The Cathiards cut annual production from roughly 670,000 bottles to about 62,000, refocusing the 220-acre estate on quality-driven Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends from vines dating to 1983. Daniel Cathiard died in January 2026, and daughters Mathilde Thomas and Alice Tourbier now oversee the estate alongside Florence Cathiard.
