About Castello di Amorosa
Castello di Amorosa is a purpose-built winery inside an authentically styled medieval Tuscan castle near Calistoga. Owner and designer Dario Sattui spent years developing the property with traditional materials and construction methods. The finished structure covers approximately 141,000 square feet, includes eight levels and contains more than one hundred rooms, most of them connected to winemaking. Towers, courtyards, stone passageways, frescoes and underground spaces make the building the central feature of the visitor experience.
The wines are produced in an Italian-influenced style while also drawing from Napa Valley varieties and vineyard sites. A visit can introduce guests to Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Barbera, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, sweet wines, sparkling selections or non-alcoholic options, depending on the chosen reservation and current release list. Some experiences focus on a tasting and limited castle access, while guided tours open additional areas and provide more explanation of the architecture, cellars and production spaces. Travelers should compare the available reservations rather than assuming every ticket includes the same rooms.
Entry is controlled at the front gate. A reservation or confirmed order pickup is required, and the winery does not admit drive-up sightseers who only want to look at the grounds. Every person in the party must be included in the reservation, even if someone chooses a non-alcoholic option or does not drink. Larger groups require separate coordination.
Castello di Amorosa is best for travelers who want a highly visual, structured destination and are willing to devote more time than a basic tasting requires.
