About Castello di Borghese

Castello di Borghese holds the distinction of being the first commercial vineyard planted on the North Fork of Long Island. In 1973, Louisa and Alex Hargrave planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir on this Cutchogue property, launching the modern Long Island wine industry. The estate was later acquired by the Borghese family, who renamed it and continued the tradition of producing estate-grown wines from what is now one of the most historically significant vineyards on the East Coast.

The portfolio includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and a Meritage blend, all grown on the original estate vineyards. The tasting room on County Road 48 offers visitors a chance to taste wines from the birthplace of North Fork viticulture in a setting that honors the pioneering spirit of the Hargrave era. Castello di Borghese remains a must-visit for anyone interested in the history and future of Long Island wine.
