About Castel Grisch Estate Winery
Castel Grisch Estate Winery sits tucked into the western hillside above Seneca Lake near Watkins Glen, reached by a long winding drive that opens onto one of the most panoramic lake views in the Finger Lakes. It was founded in 1983 by a Swiss-German couple who were struck by the area's resemblance to their native Swiss Alps and built the estate they called the 'Grey Manor,' which is what Castel Grisch translates to.
From the start the winery leaned into European traditions in both its wines and its kitchen. The sprawling 200-acre property includes more than 40 acres of vines, and while ownership has changed hands over the decades, the estate continues to make a wide range of Finger Lakes wines, from dry reds like Baco Noir to sweet and ice-style wines and crowd-pleasing blends such as its Seneca Dream bubbly.
Being just off the beaten path gives Castel Grisch a quaint, intimate feel away from the busier stretches of the wine trail. Visitors can taste inside the tasting room and gift boutique or flight-style out on the deck overlooking the vineyard and lake, and the estate is also a popular restaurant and wedding and event venue.
