About Caywood Vineyards
Caywood Vineyards is a family-run farm winery on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, established in 2002 and looking out over Riesling and Chardonnay plantings toward the water. The tasting room occupies a restored 1800s barn and grape packing house.
The interior is worth the stop on its own. The bar is handcrafted from recycled redwood and oak wine tanks, and a three-storey fireplace is built from native stone. Caywood is part of the Pleasant Valley Wine Company family, based in Lodi, which holds US Bonded Winery No. 1 and produces Great Western champagnes. That makes this tasting room the Seneca Lake outlet for the full range of Pleasant Valley brands, not just Caywood's own label.
Visiting
The tasting room stands only steps from the Finger Lakes National Forest, more than 16,000 acres of hiking, biking, camping, riding and snowshoeing, which makes it an unusually good pairing of wine and outdoors. Main season runs May through November, Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday from noon. Off season it opens weekends and selected weekdays, so check before travelling.
Caywood Vineyards is a member of the Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail, which links wineries from Victor down through Canandaigua to Naples.
