About Center of Effort

Center of Effort is an upscale estate in the Edna Valley, one of California's coolest, foggiest growing regions just inland from the San Luis Obispo coast. Founded in 2008 by sailing enthusiasts Bill Swanson and Rob Rossi, and named for the point on a sail where the wind's force concentrates, it occupies the historic former Corbett Canyon winery, rebuilt with sleek contemporary architecture. The focus is highly rated, limited-production estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a few Rhone and sparkling bottlings.

The draw is a polished, view-filled experience. Guided tastings are hosted overlooking the rolling estate vineyards and the Santa Lucia range, and the calendar adds five-course lunch pairings and summer evenings of wood-fired pizza, estate Pinot, and live music. It is a serene, hospitality-minded stop just ten minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo.

Center of EffortCenter of Effort is the most scientifically-gravity-centered-mass-naming and Edna Valley-cool-maritime-specifically-committed SLO Coast wine appointment.
The Kroener familyThe Kroener family, whose founding conviction that the center of effort (the nautical term for the geometric center of a sail's surface area, where the most aerodynamically precise and most effectively sail-force-balanced sailing point exists) provides the most scientifically-precision-naming philosophical framework for their most carefully Edna-Valley-maritime-balanced and food-first wine program, produce estate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris with the most personally Kroener-family-farming-Edna-Valley-cool-maritime-committed approach available from any SLO Coast appointment.
The Biddle RanchThe Biddle Ranch Road San Luis Obispo Edna Valley location, where the most consistently Pacific-fog-penetrating and most maritime-cool-climate-specifically-individual growing conditions in San Luis Obispo County's most Pacific-Bay-proximately-maritime-influenced growing corridor create Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris of individual maritime mineral character, provides the geological and climatic foundation for Center of Effort's most personally center-of-effort-nautical-precisely-naming and Edna-Valley-maritime-specifically-committed wine program.
