About Center of Effort
Center of Effort is an upscale estate in the Edna Valley, one of California's coolest, foggiest growing regions just inland from the San Luis Obispo coast. Founded in 2008 by sailing enthusiasts Bill Swanson and Rob Rossi, and named for the point on a sail where the wind's force concentrates, it occupies the historic former Corbett Canyon winery, rebuilt with sleek contemporary architecture. The focus is highly rated, limited-production estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a few Rhone and sparkling bottlings.
The draw is a polished, view-filled experience. Guided tastings are hosted overlooking the rolling estate vineyards and the Santa Lucia range, and the calendar adds five-course lunch pairings and summer evenings of wood-fired pizza, estate Pinot, and live music. It is a serene, hospitality-minded stop just ten minutes from downtown San Luis Obispo.
