About Chacewater Winery & Olive Mill
Chacewater is that rare California stop where the winery and the olive mill share a driveway. Family owned and operated in Kelseyville since 2008, the estate produces small lots of organically farmed wine alongside extra virgin olive oils pressed from its own trees, plus handmade soaps and lotions from the same fruit. The name honors the family's ancestral village of Chacewater in Cornwall, England.
The wine tasting runs seven pours for $15, ranging through organic Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, rose of Cabernet, Merlot, Primitivo, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec and the Highlander Zinfandel-Syrah blend, with fruit drawn from Lake County and the family's Sierra Foothills vineyard near Nevada City. A separate $15 olive oil tasting board walks through the estate's extra virgin oils, and charcuterie boards feed groups of two to six.
The atmosphere is bright, small and unhurried, with a well-informed crew and a calendar of community events including a festival day famous for its olive pit spitting contest. Tours of the winery, olive mill and orchard are available on request, and the on-site Chacewater Farmhouse offers accommodations for travelers who want to wake up among the vines.
