About Charles Usher Wines
Charles Usher Wines is a family owned boutique winery on the Saratoga wine trail, about three and a half miles from Saratoga village, producing roughly seven hundred cases a year from estate and Santa Cruz Mountain fruit plus select California appellations. The winery is named for the founder's father, Charles, who used the alias Usher for restaurant reservations his whole life.
The signature visit is a two hour appointment hosted by the winemaker and his wife: six premium wines, a gourmet food spread, a crush pad and vineyard walk, and barrel tastings in the cellar. Custom blending and custom labels are the house specialty. Santa Cruz Mountains wineries are small and often appointment based, so plan ahead. Confirm current hours, tasting fees and reservation policies with the winery before you go. Barrel tastings in the onsite cellar round out the two hours, and the cellar itself ranges wide - a rare Portuguese Arinto among the whites, Grenache, Barbera, and Petit Verdot among the reds, plus the Seven is Heaven, Fusion 8, and Trinity blends. Confirm current pricing when reserving.
