About Cho Wines
Dave and Lois Cho founded Cho Wines in 2020 and spent the next four years working toward a home for it. The estate winery and tasting room on Albertson Road opened in spring 2024, on a 77-acre site up on Bald Peak in the Chehalem Mountains with the Coast Range laid out beyond it. Lois is CEO and cofounder; Dave makes the wine.
It is the first Korean-American-owned winery in Oregon, and the couple have been explicit that the point is partly about who gets to belong in the industry. Both are children of immigrant families. Dave came to winemaking sideways, through playing music at wineries, and still reaches for that comparison when describing the range: classical through jazz and pop, depending on what you want.
The wines are Pinot Noir and sparkling from higher-elevation sites. The name works on two levels, being the family name and also carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, the elements common to all living things.
Recognition arrived quickly. Wine Enthusiast named the Chos to its Future 40 Tastemakers list, SevenFifty Daily called them Drinks Innovator of 2023, and Wine Business Monthly made them a Hot Brand of 2024. The story has run on the TODAY Show, NBC Nightly News and PBS. Visitors describe a modern room with an outdoor terrace that catches the breeze at that altitude, and recommend booking if you care whether you sit inside or out.
