About Clos Pepe Estate

Clos Pepe was one of the defining vineyards of the Sta. Rita Hills, a former horse farm near Lompoc converted to vines starting in 1996 by owners Steve and Cathy Pepe, with its first crop in 1998. Under vineyard manager and winemaker Wes Hagen it earned a reputation as one of the New World's great Pinot Noir sites, selling fruit to producers like Au Bon Climat, Ojai, Loring and Siduri while making around 1,000 cases of estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The estate label was retired after the 2014 vintage, when the Pepes leased the vineyard long-term to Walt, the Hall family's Pinot house, and Wes Hagen moved on to make wine at J. Wilkes. The vineyard itself lives on in vineyard-designated bottlings from its lessee, but there is no Clos Pepe tasting experience and no public visits to the property.
