Cooper Mountain Vineyards — Chehalem Mountains AVA Winery & Tasting Room

Cooper Mountain Vineyards sits on the western edge of the Portland metropolitan area in Beaverton — making it the most urban-adjacent serious winery in Oregon. The estate was established in 1978 and converted to certified biodynamic farming in 1999 under owner Robert Gross, who has become one of Oregon's most vocal advocates for holistic agricultural practices.

The Chehalem Mountains location, at 700 feet elevation above the Tualatin Valley, gives Cooper Mountain consistent cool temperatures and the well-drained volcanic and marine sediment soils that characterize the best Willamette Valley sites. The combination of elevation, biodynamic farming, and decades of vine age produces wines of genuine character.

Cooper Mountain is particularly notable for making high-quality wine at accessible price points — the estate's commitment to biodynamic farming is matched by a determination to offer wines that are genuinely affordable for everyday drinking. The tasting room, open daily, is 20 minutes from downtown Portland and serves as many Portland residents' introduction to Oregon wine country.
