About David Arthur Vineyards
David Arthur Vineyards sits on the eastern side of Pritchard Hill above St. Helena, on land the Long family began acquiring in 1956. David Long formally established the winery in 1980, and the first vintage was produced in 1985 at Amizetta Winery. The site's rocky, iron-oxide-rich soils and high elevation contribute to the estate's rich, structured red wines.
The winery has had only three winemakers in its history: Heidi Peterson Barrett, Bob Egelhoff, and current winemaker Nile Zacherle. Its flagship wine, Elevation 1147, is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon named for the vineyard block's elevation in feet; its 1996 debut vintage drew acclaim from Wine Spectator. The estate expanded with an additional 50 acres acquired in 2023, on top of the 19 acres already planted to vine.
