About Drava Wines

Drava Wines is a garagiste micro-winery in Lodi, owned and operated by brothers Steve and William Carson. It takes its name from the Drava River that runs through Maribor, Slovenia, home to the world's oldest known grapevine, estimated at more than 450 years old, and it brings a distinctly Central European sensibility to the Lodi appellation.

The Carsons have real ties to Slovenia. William was invited to Maribor as a guest of honor to help cut the first cluster from that ancient vine, and the small tasting room is festooned with Slovenian and Croatian flags, soccer memorabilia, and framed newsprint from the brothers' unlikely fame in the region.

Production is tiny, roughly 250 cases a year from about five tons of hand-harvested, LODI RULES Certified Sustainable fruit. The tasting list changes often and leans into unusual varietals, with Teroldego a house favorite alongside bottlings such as Barbera, Tempranillo, Albarino, and Gruner Veltliner. Wine club members even get to blend a wine of their own.

The tasting room sits just beyond downtown Lodi's historic district in a small industrial complex. It is easy to drive past, but worth seeking out for the wines and the stories behind them.

Lodi fruit, Slovenian soul, and a tasting list that never sits still.

"One of Lodi's most distinctive boutique stops. If you want big-name polish, look elsewhere; if you want small-lot, character-driven wines and an owner who will happily walk you through Slovenian wine history, Drava is a gem."
