About E2 Family Winery
E2 Family Winery carries four generations of Lodi winemaking, tracing back to great grandfather Herman Ehlers, who started in 1921 at the National Fruit Product Company, later Shewan-Jones Winery, and helped pioneer the use of sulfur dioxide and refrigeration to stabilize wine in California. His son Walter and grandson Steven kept the family in vineyards and cellars for decades, farming thousands of acres across the Lodi appellation.
A 2005 legal dispute over the Ehlers name pushed the family to rebrand as E2 Family Winery, and today the fourth generation, Steven Jr, Brett and Elishia, produces about 4500 cases a year from the family's 500 acre estate. The lineup runs through Merlot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Burger and Syrah, plus a rare Verdelho, a Portuguese white grown on just four of those acres, making E2 one of only three wineries in the country producing it. Tastings are free, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.
