About Duck Pond Cellars
Duck Pond Cellars opened in 1993 on Highway 99W in Dundee and has been a fixture of that stretch of road ever since - a straightforward, welcoming tasting room in a part of the valley where many producers are tucked up hillsides and behind gates.
More than thirty years on, the operation spans several labels poured under one roof, including Duck Pond itself, The Great Oregon Wine Company and Ransom, whose spirits are tasted alongside the wines. Willamette Valley Pinot Noir remains the centre of the range, made with minimal intervention and aimed at consistency from vintage to vintage rather than novelty.
Winemaking is led by Julia Cattrall, a fifth-generation Oregon viticulturist whose family has farmed the Cattrall Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills for over a century. She grew up with organic practice before she could drive and studied at Reed College, writing her thesis on viticulture in Burgundy.
The winery has also leaned into third-party verification, carrying the Clean Label Project Purity Award for wines independently tested for hundreds of contaminants. Visits are casual: a house tasting runs about an hour to ninety minutes, artisan boards can be added, and the room is dog-friendly with patio seating and an indoor fireplace.
