About Ehlers Estate

Ehlers Estate traces to 1886, when German immigrant Bernard Ehlers established the winery on St. Helena land that had passed through several church owners since 1848. The property later operated as Old Mill Winery after Prohibition, and Michael Casey owned it from 1968 to 2001, renting cellar space to emerging producers including Conn Creek and Saintsbury. Jean and Sylviane Leducq acquired the estate in 1987 and released their first Ehlers Estate wine from the 2000 vintage.

Today the estate is owned by the Leducq Foundation, a nonprofit funded by the sale of the Leducq family's Parisian linen business; proceeds from Ehlers Estate wine sales and tastings help support the foundation's international cardiovascular research programs. The 42-acre property, with 39 acres under vine, is certified organic and farmed biodynamically, with all wines made from estate fruit using indigenous yeasts.

Ehlers Estate is owned by the nonprofit Leducq Foundation, which directs wine-sale and tasting proceeds toward cardiovascular research.
