About Filipponi Ranch

Filipponi Ranch sits on a 300-acre spread in the oak-studded hills at the edge of San Luis Obispo, settled in the early 1900s by Swiss immigrant Lorenzo Filipponi, who ran it as a dairy. Today the family makes small lots of wine in the original dairy barn, built around 1940, from hand-harvested San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara county vineyards.

Tastings pour in the Old Ranch House, the early-1900s family home of siblings Herb and JoAnn Filipponi, remodeled over two years into a tasting room the family is rightly proud of. Afterward, guests are welcome to linger: picnic under the old sycamores, throw horseshoes or play bocce. It is minutes off Highway 101 but feels a world away. Groups of eight or more should call ahead.

A century-old family ranch where the dairy barn makes the wine and the Old Ranch House pours it.
