About Filsinger Vineyards & Winery
Filsinger Vineyards & Winery at 39050 De Portola Road is one of Temecula Valley's oldest continuously operating estate wineries, founded by Dr. William Filsinger in 1980, a time when Temecula was still an emerging wine region with only a handful of producers. Over four decades of farming the De Portola Road corridor have given Filsinger a depth of appellation knowledge and vineyard history that no newer Temecula estate can match, and the wines reflect this accumulated experience in their consistency and site-specific character.
The estate specializes in Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Cabernet Sauvignon, an unusual combination that reflects Dr. Filsinger's early conviction that Temecula Valley's warm days and cool Pacific nights could produce compelling aromatic white wines alongside the Bordeaux reds that most of the region focused on. The Gewürztraminer and Riesling programs remain among the most distinctive and longest-established in the Temecula Valley, producing wines with genuine aromatic complexity and the natural acidity that the De Portola Road's marine-influenced microclimate supports.
Open Friday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm with walk-ins welcome and a $15 tasting fee, Filsinger is one of the De Portola Trail's most historically significant and underappreciated estates. Four decades of estate production and the founding-era credibility that comes with 1980 establishment make Filsinger a pilgrimage destination for serious Temecula Valley wine enthusiasts.
"Filsinger is Temecula Valley wine history, a 1980 founding that predates most of the region's current estates and a four-decade commitment to aromatic white wines that proved the appellation's range."
For visitors to the De Portola Road wine trail who want to connect with the Temecula Valley's earliest wine pioneers, Filsinger Vineyards offers an irreplaceable perspective on the appellation's origins and a genuinely distinctive white wine program that stands apart from the region's mainstream.
