About Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery
Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery sits on the steep, fog-swept ridgetops of the far West Sonoma Coast above Jenner, home to the only tasting room in the acclaimed Fort Ross-Seaview AVA and one of the closest vineyards to the Pacific Ocean in California. Founded in 1994 by Lester and Linda Schwartz, it produced its first estate wines in 2000.
The 975-acre estate includes just over fifty acres of vines spread across 33 small blocks on coastal ridges between roughly 900 and 1,800 feet, a cool maritime, high-elevation terroir that yields small-lot, single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with the estate's signature Pinotage. The vineyard is sustainably farmed, with careful attention to preserving the surrounding redwood forest and coastal habitat.
Visiting is a destination in itself: the tasting room offers panoramic ocean views and seasonal food pairings prepared by an executive chef, plus guided walking tours through redwood groves, vineyards, and open meadows. Reservations are required, and the drive out along the coast is part of the experience.
