About Frangipani Estate Winery
Frangipani sits on De Portola Road, on the quieter of Temecula Valley's two main wine routes. The De Portola trail runs south of the busy Rancho California stretch and tends to attract people who have already done the big names.
Don Frangipani founded it, having started out in the valley in 1995 at Cilurzo Winery, one of Temecula's original estates. The winery has been operating since 2006.
The estate runs to ten acres with eight and a half planted, and the varietal mix leans Bordeaux and Italian rather than the valley's more common Chardonnay and Cabernet: Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petite Syrah, Sangiovese, Grenache and Petit Verdot.
There is a tasting room and around five thousand square feet of indoor and outdoor space used for gatherings. Tours through the valley often finish here for a seated chocolate pairing on the covered patio, which looks out over the valley with Mount Palomar on the horizon.
