About Fullerton Wines
Fullerton started in the family garage in 2011. Alex Fullerton had graduated from the University of Oregon the year before with no particular plan when his father Eric suggested winemaking during a day out tasting in the Willamette Valley. A harvest internship at Penner-Ash began the following day. Father and son made a few barrels of Pinot Noir that autumn, in a difficult vintage, and the wine was good enough to start a business.
It has stayed a family operation. Alex is the winemaker, Eric is co-owner and associate winemaker, and Susanne Fullerton runs the business as general manager. The winery itself is now in Corvallis, while the Portland tasting room on NW Pettygrove opened after the brand outgrew a shared space at the SE Wine Collective.
The stated ambition is a single-vineyard wine from every AVA in the Willamette Valley, drawing on growers including Croft, Momtazi and Fir Crest. The range splits between Three Otters as the everyday label and Five FACES for reserve and single-vineyard bottlings. The Chardonnays have drawn particular notice.
The Pettygrove room is more wine bar than tasting counter, with a seasonal kitchen, indoor and covered outdoor seating and a Scandinavian streak the family describes as hygge. Alongside the flights there is a blending session where you build your own Pinot Noir from four barrel samples.
