About Girard Winery
Girard was founded in 1975 by retired Kaiser executive Steve Girard on Oakville property near the Silverado Trail, with a winery building added in 1980. The brand was sold to Leslie Rudd in 1996 (later becoming Rudd Winery) and revived in 2000 under vintner Pat Roney and, later, Vintage Wine Estates. In 2024, Jayson Adair (CEO of Copart) acquired Girard out of Vintage Wine Estates' bankruptcy.
After stints on Pritchard Hill, in a Sonoma warehouse, and in a Yountville tasting room, Girard has operated since 2018 out of a solar-powered Calistoga facility on Dunaweal Lane. The portfolio spans Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Chardonnay, Grenache, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a stated focus on approachable pricing and big aromatics.
Girard has changed hands three times since 1996 and now pours from a solar-powered Calistoga facility, not Rutherford.
