Gold Hill Vineyard is named for the gold-bearing hilltop above the estate — a literal gold rush landmark where prospectors worked the surface deposits before the land transitioned from mining to farming to viticulture. The Hofmann family's estate in Pilot Hill has been producing wine since 1985, one of El Dorado County's earliest modern wineries, farming the same hillside that gold rush history touched before wine arrived.
The Vineyard Lane estate produces Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Barbera, and Cabernet Sauvignon from El Dorado County estate vineyard blocks at foothill elevations where the gold-country terrain's volcanic and granitic soils create growing conditions of unusual mineral complexity.
