About Holly's Hill Vineyards
Holly's Hill Vineyards is a Rhone-focused winery tucked into the pines just south of Placerville, at 2,700 feet of elevation in the Pleasant Valley region of El Dorado County. Owners Tom and Holly Cooper fell in love with the wines of France's Rhone Valley over a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape on their honeymoon, then planted a vineyard on Tom's family's Sierra foothill ranch.
The estate is devoted almost entirely to Rhone varieties, beginning with fifteen acres of Syrah planted in 1998 on steeply terraced, circular slopes for 360-degree sun exposure. Over the years the plantings have grown to include Grenache, Mourvedre, Counoise, Carignane, Cinsaut, Grenache Blanc, and Picpoul, giving the winery an unusually complete Rhone lineup for California.
Now run by the Coopers' daughter Carrie Bendick and her husband, winemaker Josh Bendick, Holly's Hill pairs studious, elegant Rhone-style wines with craft beer and sweeping views over the Cosumnes River Canyon. The deck and tree-lined picnic area make it a relaxed, family- and dog-friendly mountain retreat, open daily.
