About Griffin Hill Vineyards
Griffin Hill Vineyards makes a charming promise: world-class wines, but only for the local market. Jeff and Claudia Griffin began as winegrowers in 2011 on the old Noble Hill Vineyard site (first planted in 1985), selling fruit to a San Carlos urban winery before Jeff turned his winemaking skills into a label of his own in 2015. The estate perches on steep Santa Cruz Mountains slopes looking toward the Pacific above Los Gatos.
The lineup runs estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, estate-planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel sourced from fellow Santa Cruz Mountains growers, and a Merlot from the vineyard next door - hand punched-down, basket pressed, unfined and unfiltered in the small lots, with vintages that sell out locally. Bottles land at a who's-who of South Bay and Santa Cruz retailers, from Uncorked in Saratoga to Wild Roots in Felton.
There's no public tasting room, but the winery welcomes locals the neighborly way: schedule a weekday pickup (9 to 5, four-bottle minimum), arrange a private estate tour, or join one of the wine classes for deepening your appreciation. The no-cost-to-join local wine club adds 20% off everything and twice-yearly pickup events. Call (650) 799-3327 or email to arrange a visit - and free local delivery covers dinner-table emergencies.
