About Harmony Wynelands Winery
Harmony Wynelands is an 18-acre family-owned boutique winery on Lodi's south side, founded in 1997. It is unmistakable for the giant wine barrels along the road that mark the big blue-and-white barn. The name is a nod to South Africa, where vineyards are called wynlands; the owners added a letter after a visit.
The tasting room is the real showstopper. It doubles as a music studio built around a full-size 2/11 Robert Morton pipe organ originally installed in San Francisco's historic Castro Theatre. Owner Bob Hartzell, a longtime president of the California Association of Wine Grape Growers and an accomplished organist, can often be found playing it while guests sip, and the winery hosts concerts and silent-movie nights in the cathedral-like room with its 30-foot beamed ceiling.
Winemaking runs in the family. Hartzell's son Shaun MacKay has crafted many award winners, including a GMA Rhone blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, and Alicante Bouschet that took Best of California at the 2010 State Fair. The lineup also features Old Vine Zinfandel from decades-old estate vines, Alicante Bouschet, Riesling, Chardonnay, Rose, and a Zinsation dessert wine.
Rose gardens, fountains, a shaded veranda, and picnic-friendly grounds make it a popular setting for weddings and events. It is both child and dog friendly.
