Healdsburg Wineries: The Hub of Northern Sonoma (2026)

A walkable Plaza where three great valleys meet. Updated for 2026.

Healdsburg is the stylish hub of northern Sonoma wine country, and the best single base for exploring it. The charming town sits right where three of Sonoma's most celebrated appellations meet, the Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Alexander Valley, so world-class Pinot, Zinfandel, and Cabernet are all within a short drive. At its center is a walkable, tree-lined Plaza ringed with tasting rooms, acclaimed restaurants (including the three-Michelin-starred SingleThread), shops, and hotels.

Below are the Healdsburg wineries and tasting rooms we think best capture the town, from walkable Plaza salons to the grand estates just outside it. We have leaned toward places that let you enjoy the town on foot, plus a few marquee estates worth the short drive. These are seated, mostly by-appointment experiences; reserve ahead. Current as of October 2026.

How to choose

Planning your visit

Healdsburg's great advantage is its location: base here and you can walk the Plaza tasting rooms, then drive 10 to 20 minutes into the Russian River, Dry Creek, or Alexander valleys, so you can taste Pinot, Zinfandel, and Cabernet all from one town. Spend at least part of a day on foot, strolling between the Plaza salons and the town's excellent restaurants and shops, and reserve dinners well ahead, Healdsburg's dining is as big a draw as its wine. For the estates outside town, a short rideshare keeps the day car-free. Keep the pace relaxed, two or three tastings with a long lunch, and book ahead, especially on weekends. Spring and fall bring the best weather for strolling the Plaza, though the town is a pleasure to visit in any season. Many visitors find a single unhurried day based here beats a rushed tour of the wider county.

What to avoid

Do not treat Healdsburg as just a drive-through on the way to the vineyards; the walkable Plaza, with its tasting rooms and restaurants, is a destination in itself. Do not skip restaurant reservations, the town's dining books out early. And do not try to hit all three surrounding valleys in one day; pick one, plus a Plaza stroll, and enjoy it, you will taste better and remember more. Finally, do not overlook that parking around the Plaza fills on busy weekends, which is one more reason to settle in, walk, and let the town set the pace.
