About Heart O' The Mountain
Heart O' The Mountain is named for the folk-contraction that describes the estate's position at the center of the Santa Cruz Mountains wine country — literally at the mountain range's heart, where the elevation, fog, and Pacific influence converge to create growing conditions of unusual character. The folk-contraction naming ('O' rather than 'of') carries the old California vernacular that the Santa Cruz Mountains farming community historically used.
The Bear Creek Road estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir from summit-elevation Santa Cruz Mountains terrain where the elevation creates growing conditions dramatically different from either the coast or the valley floor below. The Santa Cruz Mountains' combination of marine influence, poor-soils granitic bedrock, and extreme diurnal temperature swings produces wines of unusual structural tension.
