About Howell Mountain Vineyards
Howell Mountain Vineyards takes the most direct possible naming approach: the wines come from Howell Mountain, and the winery is simply named for Howell Mountain. No family name, no Italian heritage, no French château reference, no philosophical aspiration — just the place.
The Summit Lake Drive estate sits at over 1,700 feet elevation on Howell Mountain's most volcanic terrain, where ancient pyroclastic soils and the extreme diurnal temperature swings characteristic of high-elevation Napa Valley produce Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon of concentrated mountain character and structural power.
Established in 1988, the estate is one of the Howell Mountain AVA's longer-tenured producers — the mountain's identity is fully internalized, and the wines reflect decades of learning how these specific volcanic soils express different varieties in different conditions.
